ABOUT

Ashley George is a communication consultant with a PhD in Communication Studies, expertise in interpersonal communication skill development, and over 16 years of higher education teaching experience.

 

She offers communication training to professionals in all industries, helping them problem-solve relational challenges in the workplace and improve connection with their colleagues. She is passionate about empowering individuals with the skills and discernment necessary to appropriately navigate difficult conversations because she understands keenly that these conversations play a key role in employee retention and in the long-term success of an organization’s mission.

 

Ashley offers training to groups of all types and sizes. Areas of expertise and coaching include: effectively presenting feedback to colleagues, direct reports (including residents and interns), and students; developing empathy and listening skills; managing communication anxiety; and communicating effectively across generations. She has spoken to gatherings ranging from five to 5,000, and she is regularly invited to speak at Samford University and in the community. She has received many local and national awards in advising and teaching, and those who know her (both professionally and personally) regularly comment on her extraordinary ability to handle delicate interpersonal matters with insight, steadiness, and care.

Ashley is an associate professor of Communication Studies at Samford University, where she has developed several new interpersonal communication classes, including Health Communication and Supportive Communication. She is also an interdisciplinary researcher with health practitioners and other scholars and has authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed communication studies and health sciences journals. In addition to teaching and mentoring students, she also directs the university-wide faculty mentorship program and was selected to give Samford’s May 2024 commencement address.

Ashley lives in Birmingham, AL and enjoys hiking, college football, and visiting as many National Parks as possible with her husband and two children.
